The Black Sabbath Show (cartoon)

Notes: Another from the Gary's Black Sabbath batch; this is the 12th show of the tour. Gary used to list the gen of the tapes on
his site, but, when I bought these, I was just thrilled to have the shows - I didn't really care about the lineage. At some point,
I started looking for in the information on-line, but, his website seems to have disappeared for good, so, I can't say for sure.
This much is certain: in some instances he sold me his original tape, in others, he sold me a dub of his original. The guy had a huge
collection and so a lot of his stuff was very low gen. Some, not so much - this show is pretty generated, but, is well-shot and
definitely watchable.

NEW: Black Sabbath live in Seinajoki 1994 - 1DVD - June 11

BLACK SABBATH
Provinssi Rock Festival
Seinajoki, Finland
June 11, 1994

Lineage: unknown gen VHS>VIDEO TS (using Ulead)>DVD-R>DVDShrink(lossless extraction)>VIDEO TS

Band:
Tony Iommi
Geezer Butler
Tony Martin
Bobby Rondinelli
with Geoff Nicholls

Tracklist (1:09:32):
Children of the Sea (cuts in)
I Witness
The Mob Rules
Into The Void
When Death Calls
Black Sabbath
Neon Knights
Psychophobia
The Wizard
Cross Of Thorns
Symptom Of The Universe
Rondinelli solo
Headless Cross
Paranoid (cuts out)

Notes: Still more from the Gary's Black Sabbath batch; this is the last show of the European part of the Cross Purposes tour and
Bobby Rondinelli's last show of the tour. He was replaced for the South American leg by Bill Ward, thus restoring the original
Black Sabbath to a 3 member quorum. To me, that's what ultimately gave Tony Martin credibility in Sabbath - playing with Tony, Bill
and Geezer.

Truly, the Cross Purposes album was very strong and the tour setlist was very well balanced between the new album, Dio-era and
Ozzy-era classics. This is an incomplete document of that, as it's missing the beginning and the encore, pretty shaky, but, decent
angles and good sound. If you're a fan...

Lineage: unknown gen VHS>VIDEO TS (using ClickToDVD)>DVD-R>DVDShrink(lossless extraction)>VIDEO TS

Band:
Tony Iommi
Cozy Powell
Tony Martin

Tracklist (1:38:32):
Neon Knights
Iron Man
Children of the Grave
Die Young
The Sabbath Stones
Heart Like a Wheel
Headless Cross
When Death Calls
The Law Maker
Anno Mundi
Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell
Paranoid

Notes: Still more from the Gary's Black Sabbath batch: only a handfull of Tyr tour shows were played, so, very little exists
on video - this is probably the best example. This video is a bit generated, but, sounds pretty good and has some pretty decent
(if occasionally shaky) camera work. Don't expect a masterpiece, but, very well worthwhile for fans. I converted this from VHS
to DVD on October 7, 2003.

12 The Wizard
13 Cross Of Thorns
14 Symptom Of The Universe
15 Bobby Rondinelli Solo
16 Headless Cross
17 Paranoid
18 Iron Man
19 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

notes: awesome performance from the end of the US leg of the Cross Purposes tour. This is probably my favorite tour from
the non-Ozzy, non-Dio eras, as the setlist is an excellent overview of their entire songbook, including songs from the very
underrated Cross Purposes album, which featured the (brief) return of Geezer Butler.

I was not aware of their being multiple angles; I had a fairly high gen VHS tape of the center angle that I had purchased
on eBay, and was expecting the same when I bought several dozen (!) original VHS tapes from Gary's Black Sabbath website back
in 2004. I was surprised to find a different angle; Gary had this listed as the 2nd gen. About a year later, Ron/Damage, Inc.
lent me his 1st gen copy of the center angle that he obtained directly from the taper (which I extracted to .avi for future use),
and a year or so after that, I decided to take a crack at doing an edit. I was delighted to find that the tapes were largely
compatible, and was able to quickly compile a very watchable, almost professional quality version of this classic show.

The performance is very high energy and the crowd is very into it; there's a very active mosh pit that develops at the front
of the stage and goes on for much of the show. Someone in the crowd also holds up a large crucifix, which really adds atmosphere
to the film. Both angles are largely without obstruction and quite clear, considering their age. For any fans of this particular
era of the band, this is the best amateur/audience representation and is a must have.

This is a different source than the one taken from a french tv broadcast. Back in the ninties I worked with someone who had worked at a cable company. He had a few
off-air masters of some shows. He gave me access to some of them, this is one of them. I don't have the previously circulating version of this so I can't say if this is an
upgrade or not, I'm sharing it here on the chance that it may be. I will say it's a bit better than what I've seen u/l on Youtube but I understand that that's not a fair comparison.
No "Jimmy" in the upper right but you get a time code bar in the bottom left.

Notes: Still more from the Gary's Black Sabbath batch; converted to DVD from VHS on January 20, 2004. Another full show from the
Tyr tour, this one suffers from tracking issues as it goes - very watchable, but, don't come in looking for high quality. Would
love to see an upgrade to this - especially with LPCM audio.

Notes: Yet another from the Gary's Black Sabbath batch; converted to DVD from VHS on May 22, 2004. This is a full show from the
underrated Tyr tour, converted from PAL to NTSC long before I obtained on VHS. Not bad sound, the picture is definitely on the
fuzzy side, but, is absolutely watchable for fans of the tour and/or band.

Notes: Another VHS tape purchased from Gary's Black Sabbath in late '03 (so this was converted from PAL to NTSC before I got it);
I converted this to DVD on March 15, 2004. This is a fairly generated, but, still extremely watchable audience recording from the
underrepresented Headless Cross tour of '89. Man, I wish I could've seen this tour with this setlist - which, for me, are the
biggest advantage of the Tony Martin years: his willingness to sing songs from across the entire Sabbath catalogue.

Iron Man
War Pigs
Born To Lose
Black Sabbath
Glory Ride
Heaven and Hell
Children of the Grave
The Shining
Paranoid

Notes: This is the only circulating video from The Eternal Idol tour. The raw VHS tape was really boomy audio-wise and rather
obscured by the taper's position. I thought it would be clever to take a better sounding audio CDR that I had acquired in a snail
mail trade and dub it into the .avi file from the video. This proved to much more difficult than I initially imagined, and along
the way, I started making "improvements" to the video file using filters in Premiere. In retrospect, what I did was a first attempt,
but, I didn't have the time or the energy to do any further work on it, so, thus it stands "Essen Eternal". This was another video
I obtained through Gary's Black Sabbath website circa fall 2003.

My friend Loudpuppy was over here this afternoon, and I showed him excerpts of each video and asked which he preferred, as a casual
Black Sabbath fan. He felt this version was superior, due to the higher quality audio. The video in the "remaster" is less detailed,
but, not so much of a downgrade to be overcome by it, especially with the mixed in superior audio. I completed this remaster in
March of 2005.
